5 KDramas You Must Watch This Summer | 2021

Breaking into the world of KDramas can seem daunting at first, but once you cross that bridge there’s a whole lot of great shows that await. So never fear, our veteran KDrama watchers are here! We’ve rounded up 5 solid KDramas you must watch this summer. Rest assured, as our team has personally watched and enjoyed all of these. So you can take your pick on without worrying about getting bored.

1. What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim

Funny, moving and full of endearing moments, What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim is an underrated drama. The story revolves around the Vice Chairman, who is narcissistic second-generation heir to the company, and his long time personal assistant who decides to quit her job. Watch Park Seo-joon and Park Min-young keep you thoroughly enraptured through through the story.

2. Strong Girl Do Bong-Soon

A fast moving, entirely overdramatic (but in a good way) light hearted show that is the perfect feel-good watch. Park Bo-young plays a woman born with superhuman strength, who is hired by the CEO of a gaming company, played by Park Hyung-sik, to be his bodyguard. While the duo’s chemistry will have you giggling and sighing, the show also adds some mystery and drama to the mix for good measure. A perfect watch if you’re just entering the world of KDrama.

3. She Was Pretty

Another show that casts Park Seo-joon as the male lead, with Choi Siwon of the popular group Super Junior playing the second lead. A romantic comedy – the story follows Hwang Jung‑eum, who plays the female lead, as she’s reconnected with a childhood friend only to find out they’ve gone through a reversal of fortunes and appearances. It’s warm story about love, friendship and acceptance and a pinch of Second Lead Syndrome. Worth the watch!

4. Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-Joo

Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-Joo is a romantic comedy that follows the dynamic between  a competitive swimmer (Nam Joo-hyuk) and his childhood friend who is now a rising weightlifting star (Lee Sung-kyung). As they cross paths while training, they navigate their friendship, various crushes, competition and more!

Author Note: This was the first KDrama I watched, and I was hooked. It’s light and funny, and heartwarming in all the ways you need. If you’re just starting out, or even searching for a good watch- this one is the way to go!

5. Descendants Of The Sun

This drama looks at the love story that develops between a surgeon and a special forces officer. It follows their dynamic as they are from diametrically opposite worlds, and still find themselves in the middle of historic events and great wars. If you’re looking for a gripping drama, you’ve found it. Descendants of the Sun is the binge-watch you’ve been waiting for.

We hope you enjoy these options. They are all available to watch on Netflix! Drop us a comment if you watch any of these, and we’d love to have a discussion!
